The history of Fort Strother
In 1813, U.S. soldiers and Tennessee volunteers under Andrew Jackson's command built a fort on the west bank of the Coosa River in present-day St. Clair County. Today, at lest 70 unmarked graves from that time remain at the site, researchers say.
